JoshimathDay 1 · Joshimath
Your trip begins early in Rishikesh, where your driver picks you up for the long drive into the Himalayas along the Alaknanda River. Stop midday at Devprayag to photograph the sacred confluence where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet. Continue along the route through the Panch Prayag region into the mountains. By late evening, arrive in the town of Joshimath, check into your hotel, and relax over a hot dinner of local Garhwali or North Indian dishes before a restful night.

In the afternoon, set out on a scenic 2 to 3.5-kilometre trek to the revered Kalpeshwar Temple, the only Panch Kedar shrine accessible all year. On your return walk, stop at the peaceful Sri Dhyan Badri Temple before wandering through Urgam Village past stone houses, apple orchards and terraced fields. Spend the evening hearing stories from your hosts over dinner under clear, starlit skies.
