Begin the morning after breakfast by visiting the giant Buddha Dordenma statue and the heritage displays at Simply Bhutan Museum. Then journey towards Phobjikha Valley, climbing across Dochula Pass to view its 108 Druk Wangyal memorial chortens. Descend into the valley, check in to your hotel, have dinner, and spend the night in Phobjikha.

PunakhaDay 4 · Punakha
Visit Gangtey Monastery overlooking the valley after breakfast before driving towards Punakha. En route, walk across rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang. The temple displays fertility paintings and imagery, which you can choose to view from outside if preferred. Continue to the Punakha Suspension Bridge for a walk across the river gorge ahead of tomorrow's Dzong visit. Check in, have dinner, and stay overnight in Punakha.

Explore the majestic Punakha Dzong at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers after breakfast. Drive towards Paro, pausing along the route for an independent lunch at your own cost. Upon reaching Paro, browse the town markets for handicrafts or visit local cafes in the evening. Dinner and your overnight stay are in Paro.

Dedicate the day after breakfast to the moderate uphill hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, or Paro Taktsang, perched on a sheer granite cliff above Paro Valley. Wear appropriate clothing and carry water and snacks for the trail. In the late afternoon or evening, you can opt for a traditional hot stone bath at your own cost. Return to your hotel in Paro for dinner and an overnight stay.

Check out after breakfast for the road journey south towards the Indian border, travelling across both sides of the frontier.
