Sharing a bottle of wine on our Seine River cruise at night, watching lit up landmarks glide past, was so romantic.
Getting pleasantly lost in Nice Old Town's lanes, then the TGV south through changing countryside, then Marseille's basilica. Each city felt genuinely different, exactly what we hoped for on a longer trip together.
The bouchon supper in Vieux Lyon was a proper highlight, but our Lyon room was smaller than the photos and street noise kept us both awake the first night. Nice and Paris more than compensated, just a shame the final stay was the weakest.
Metro rides in Paris during our visit were quite crowded and confusing with our luggage, took us nearly an hour longer than expected just getting to the hotel.
Paris rewarded us with golden hour views from the Eiffel Tower summit. My wife and I stood there barely speaking, just taking it all in. We had booked a slightly later time slot hoping for a quieter crowd and it worked out beautifully. Definitely one of those moments where photos genuinely do not do it justice.
Gorgeous fortnight, only Marseille felt squeezed, we barely had time at the old port before moving on to Lyon.
