Driving ourselves along the Romantic Road between cities gave us more privacy and quiet conversation than any of our previous city-hopping trips. My husband, not usually one for scenery, kept asking to stop for photos every few kilometres.
Hand-in-hand through Frankfurt's Römerberg Square in the evening light was one of those quiet romantic moments you don't plan for but remember anyway. Munich gave us the livelier half of the trip, Glockenspiel show, beer garden evenings, and a day trip to Neuschwanstein that honestly felt straight out of a movie. Driving the Romantic Road ourselves added a nice sense of freedom to the itinerary. Five nights as a couple felt indulgent in the best possible way.

Munich shone, but grey skies over the castle and a too-short Frankfurt stop kept this one from perfect.
Two cities in five nights sounds rushed on paper but the pace actually worked beautifully for us as a couple wanting variety without exhaustion. Glockenspiel show in Marienplatz became our little evening tradition during the Munich leg. Neuschwanstein Castle was every bit as magical as the photos suggest, we still show people the pictures months later. Booking this as an anniversary trip was one of our better decisions this year.
