Guwahati, Shillong, Cherrapunji and Wari Chora

Arrive at Guwahati Airport and meet your driver. Set off on the scenic drive into Meghalaya's hills to Shillong. Check into your accommodation and take time to freshen up. In the evening, head out to Police Bazaar to browse local markets selling traditional Khasi handicrafts and clothing. Continue to Shillong's cafe quarter, where you can visit Dylan's Cafe, hear live music at The Evening Club, or sample traditional Khasi soul food at Trattoria. Overnight in Shillong.

Start early with a drive to Laitlum Canyons to view the deep valleys and rolling ridges. Continue toward Upper Shillong to visit the three tiers of Elephant Falls. Drive to Mawkdok Dympep Valley Viewpoint, where you can stop for lunch and optional ziplining across the gorge. Head into Cherrapunji to stand before Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge waterfall. Later, admire Nohsngithiang Falls, also known as Seven Sisters, and take in views across the Bangladesh plains from Eco Park. Settle into your Cherrapunji stay for the night.

Depart early on a scenic road journey to the South Garo Hills. Arrive in the Siju area by the Simsang River for a simple local lunch. Put on headlamps and waterproof shoes to enter Siju Caves, wading through knee-deep water past limestone formations and bat colonies. Continue your drive through forest canopies and river bends into the Wari Chora area. Arrive at a traditional bamboo homestay in Emangre or Dabalgre. Enjoy a wood-fired Garo tribal dinner, hear tomorrow's briefing, and spend the night under open skies.

Begin the day with a local breakfast before starting a 1.5 km trek through bamboo groves and forest downhill to the gorge. Step into a traditional wooden boat to cruise through Wari Chora's narrow waterway, flanked by 100-foot vertical limestone cliffs draped in moss. Take time to swim in the clear waters. Sit down for a packed picnic lunch on the riverbank, then take a short walk to Aginma Wari, a sacred sanctuary home to chocolate mahseer. Return to your homestay for another night in the Garo Hills.

Have a traditional Garo breakfast before setting out on the drive climbing from the lowlands back to Cherrapunji. Watch the landscape shift from dense tropical forest to rolling high-altitude hills. After reaching Sohra, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Later, take a short walk to Arwi Falls or explore the rocky Dainthlen riverbed area to watch the sunset. End your afternoon at a tea stall or cafe such as Orange Roots for red tea and local pukhlein. Check into your resort for the night.

Start the morning with a morning view of Nohkalikai Falls and a stop at Seven Sisters waterfall viewpoint. Visit Mawsmai Cave next, walking through its illuminated limestone corridors filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Leave Sohra behind and begin your descent out of the hills, making a scenic pause at Umiam Lake along the route. Continue downward into Assam and reach Guwahati Airport in time for your evening flight.
