Skies changed every hour on our south coast days, which meant some viewpoints we had planned for photos were fogged out completely by the time we arrived. Akureyri at the end was calmer and the farewell dinner there was a genuinely lovely way to close the trip, so the middle stretch is really the only complaint.
Harpa concert hall's glass panels catching the evening light was an unexpectedly romantic Reykjavik moment.
Adventure honeymoon idea worked out better than we imagined, Seljalandsfoss's spray soaking us both while laughing is a memory we still bring up months later.
Thingvellir's history and geology moved us both more than we'd expected, but the roadside cafes on the south coast charge a small fortune and the coffee near Vik was frankly terrible for the price.
Godafoss waterfall was quieter and more peaceful than the more famous stops earlier in the trip, a nice romantic pause before heading further north.
Self drive portions of this route gave us real freedom to stop wherever the view demanded it.
