Panoramic views from the church tower near trip's end gave us a perfect close, colourful Reykjavik rooftops stretching out below. Geothermal geyser show at Strokkur earlier in the week was a fun, slightly unpredictable detour that added good variety to a very nature-heavy itinerary.
Icebergs at Jokulsarlon drifting past at sunset, a genuinely unforgettable moment for the two of us.
Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon was the moment of the entire trip for us, icebergs drifting silently past while we just stood there holding hands not saying much. Diamond Beach right next to it, with ice chunks scattered on black sand, felt almost staged it was so beautiful. Strokkur geyser gave us the adrenaline contrast, waiting and predicting exactly when it would erupt became a fun little game between us. Ending the trip at Hallgrimskirkja's tower looking over Reykjavik felt like the perfect quiet close to a wonderful couple's escape.
Eight years together and this Iceland trip still ranks as our favourite anniversary celebration so far. Every stop felt curated for a couple wanting adventure without sacrificing quiet time together, from the geyser fields to the glacier lagoon. Weather stayed mild throughout our June visit, layering up in the mornings and shedding jackets by afternoon. Would genuinely recommend this route to any couple who enjoys nature over nightlife.
We are not nightlife people, so a route built around glacier lagoons and waterfalls suited us down to the ground. Reykjavik at the end felt lively without ever tipping into overwhelming, and that rooftop view from the church tower sent us home happy.
