Arashiyama's bamboo grove was the one stop where even our teenager put the phone down. Walking through with the leaves rustling overhead felt like something out of a film.
Nishiki Market was fun for an evening though some stalls charged more than expected for small portions. Otherwise the whole itinerary flowed nicely from temple to temple.
Perfectly paced for a family of four, this five night Kyoto itinerary never felt rushed. Between the temples, the bamboo grove and an evening at Nishiki Market there was a good mix of culture and downtime. Our younger one loved feeding the koi near the pavilions more than anything else on the trip. Would happily recommend this to any family with kids around primary school age.
Grandparents back home have already asked for the itinerary after seeing our photos from Fushimi Inari.
Kinkaku-ji reflecting in that pond is exactly like the pictures, maybe even better in person. Our kids kept asking to go back the next day.
Nijo Castle's squeaky floors amused the children no end, though the crowds inside made it hard to linger properly.
