Miyajima's floating torii gate was the most photographed moment of our whole trip.
Five nights across Tokyo and Hiroshima gave a real sense of Japan's contrasts, from modern rail travel to solemn history. Kids were fascinated by the Shinkansen's speed and the whole family found the Peace Memorial Park visit sobering but worthwhile.
Three generations joined this trip, grandparents, parents and two kids, and the itinerary suited everyone perfectly. The Shinkansen felt like a small adventure on its own for the little ones. Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park brought real tears from the adults in our group. Miyajima's floating torii at low tide versus high tide gave us two completely different, equally stunning photos. Would recommend this route to any family wanting substance alongside sightseeing.
Shinkansen ride and Mt Fuji views alone made this trip unforgettable for the kids.
Fog rolled in right at the 5th Station and we barely got a glimpse of Mt Fuji, disappointing after building it up for the kids ahead of the June trip. Hiroshima Peace Park more than made up for it with how moving the experience was.
Tokyo to Hiroshima combination worked well for us with two teenagers. Mt Fuji viewing was clear on our visit which we heard is not always guaranteed, and the Shinkansen ride itself was a highlight for the kids.
