Nearly half our first Penang day was gone by the time that long drive from KL got us to the hotel. Frustrating, because once we were settled, Penang Hill and the old-town food more than won us over.
My husband is not a temple person usually but even he was quiet and moved standing inside Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang, the scale of it is hard to describe in photos. The funicular ride up Penang Hill afterward was the perfect wind-down, so much cooler than the city heat below. We did feel the itinerary was a touch rushed on the Penang side though, one more evening there would have let us actually relax instead of ticking boxes.
