Island half of this trip was fantastic, funicular views and the temple both a hit with our kids. KL felt slightly rushed in comparison, wish we had an extra day there before heading to the island.
Good mix of city energy and island calm for a family trip. Only downside was the KL traffic eating into our first evening, we reached the towers viewpoint later than planned and it was quite crowded by then.
Petronas Towers and the Penang temple were lovely, no complaints there. What frustrated us was a shopping stop our guide insisted on in Chinatown that ate almost ninety minutes out of our day, felt more like a commission stop than something for the family. Kids were tired and cranky by the time we got to Penang Hill because of it.
Keeping three generations happy is never easy but this trip pulled it off. My parents loved the temple visits and the slower Penang pace, while the children were thrilled by Chinatown snacks and the towers glowing at night.
Planning a trip that keeps three generations happy is never easy but this itinerary managed it. My parents loved the temple visits and slower Penang pace, while our kids were thrilled with Chinatown's street snacks and the towers lit up at night. Hotel upgrades that came with the premium package made a real difference for my mother in law who needs more comfort these days. A genuinely well balanced family holiday.
Penang Hill was cooler and breezier than expected, a welcome change after humid KL streets. Our teenagers actually put their phones down for the view, which says something.
