Meghalaya, Kaziranga and Majuli Island

Arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, meet your representative, and transfer to your hotel. After freshening up, head out to Nilachal Hill to visit Kamakhya Temple, an ancient Shakti Peeth offering sweeping views across the city. In the evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River while local melodies drift over the water. You will spend the night at your hotel in Guwahati.

Have breakfast, then set off on a scenic overland drive to Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its one-horned rhinoceroses. Check into your jungle lodge upon arrival and relax in the wild surroundings. You can choose to take a nature walk or explore the nearby orchid park during your free evening. Overnight stay is at your lodge in Kaziranga.

Wake early for a morning jeep safari through the central range of Kaziranga National Park, watching the misty grasslands for rhinos, wild elephants, swamp deer, and tigers. Afterward, leave the plains and drive up into the hills to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. Enjoy scenic views of pine forests and undulating hills along the way before settling in for an overnight stay in Shillong.

Following breakfast, drive from Shillong to Cherrapunji, renowned as one of the wettest spots on Earth. Stop at Nohkalikai Falls to see water plunge dramatically into a deep gorge, then venture inside Mawsmai Cave to view its lit limestone passages. Continue on to visit Seven Sisters Falls and Eco Park before checking in to your Cherrapunji accommodation for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, start your full-day hike to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat. The trek leads through dense subtropical forests, crossing mountain streams and suspension bridges. You will also visit the limestone chambers of Arwah Cave and take in panoramic viewpoints at Thangkharang Park. Return to your resort to rest at leisure, staying overnight in Cherrapunji.

Post breakfast, travel to Mawlynnong, celebrated as Asia's cleanest village. Wander along paths lined with flowers and climb the bamboo Sky Viewpoint for views extending across Bangladesh. Proceed to Dawki for a boat ride on the transparent waters of the Umngot River, then travel onwards to the riverside settlement of Shnongpdeng. You can try kayaking or unwind by the water before sleeping in Shnongpdeng.

Have breakfast and travel to Krang Suri Falls, a turquoise waterfall set in the forest where you can take a dip in the natural pool. Afterwards, stop at Tyrshi Falls near Jowai to admire the cascading water and terraced paddy fields. Continue your drive back up to Shillong, check in to your hotel, and spend the evening relaxing. Overnight stay in Shillong.

After breakfast, depart the Meghalaya hills and return towards Kaziranga National Park in Assam, driving through lush valleys and emerald tea plantations. Arrive and check into your accommodation. The evening is free to unwind at your own pace, or you can choose to attend an optional cultural show featuring lively Assamese Bihu and regional tribal dance performances. Overnight stay in Kaziranga.

Enjoy breakfast, then travel by road to the river banks to catch a ferry across the Brahmaputra to Majuli Island, the largest river island on earth. Check into your bamboo cottage accommodation. Majuli serves as an important centre of Vaishnavite culture, famous for its historic Satra monasteries and river communities. Enjoy the quiet island atmosphere and stay overnight in Majuli.

Spend the morning touring Auniati Satra and Kamalabari Satra, meeting resident Vaishnavite monks and observing ancient traditions like mask craft and pottery making. Later, take the ferry back across the river and drive to Jorhat, an Assamese heritage town bordered by extensive tea plantations. Check in to your hotel and spend a restful night in Jorhat.

Have breakfast at your hotel in Jorhat before beginning your overland drive back to Guwahati. Head to the airport or railway station for your onward travel, concluding your eleven-day circuit through Assam and Meghalaya.
