Great balance of thrills and easy days for a family. The Lake Wakatipu sail let the grandparents relax while the kids ran about the deck, and Auckland's waterfront was a soft landing before the flight home.
Solid family itinerary overall with a good balance of nature and city stops for both kids. Queenstown's alpine setting in June with snow on the peaks was a lovely bonus we had not expected. Only gripe is our hotel room was quite small for four people, and storage was a real struggle with all the winter layers we had packed. Would still recommend it for families wanting something different.
Overcrowding hit us at the glowworm caves on the day we went, several tour groups bunched up right at the section with the best glowworms and the magic got a bit lost in the shuffling. Milford Sound the next day more than made up for it though, kids forgot all about it by evening. Auckland at the end gave tired legs a nice easy wind down.
Loved the mix of adventure and easy sightseeing for a family with young kids. The drives between Queenstown activities felt long some days though and the younger one got restless.
