Weekend trip to Bangkok with my husband turned out warmer and friendlier than either of us expected from a big city. The one thing I would flag is our rooftop bar reservation got mixed up on arrival, though staff sorted it out within ten minutes.
The temple and river-cruise parts were genuinely lovely, but our one full sightseeing day got hijacked by an unplanned stop at what was clearly a commission shopping outlet dressed up as a cultural visit. The pushy staff and the ninety minutes it stole from the Grand Palace soured an otherwise sweet weekend.
Perfect little escape for a long weekend with your other half, the mix of temples by day and rooftop cocktails by night suited us well. Traffic between stops did eat into our schedule a bit more than expected though.
Golden Palace spires up close are more impressive than any photo prepares you for. We spent longer there than planned just soaking in the detail on every wall and roofline.
Chinatown's food stalls at night were chaotic in the best way, we ate ourselves silly for almost nothing.
