As a first time solo female traveller I chose this itinerary because Bangkok felt manageable and safe, and I was right. The Grand Palace complex took a whole unhurried morning to explore properly, every corner had something ornate to look at. Evenings in Chinatown were loud, smoky, and completely addictive, I went back three nights in a row for the same noodle stall. Only downside was my hotel room facing a busy road so earplugs became essential.
By the end of this solo week I realised I genuinely enjoy my own company while travelling.
Enjoyed most of this trip but the tuk tuk driver near the Grand Palace kept steering me toward a gem shop I clearly did not want to visit, took nearly half an hour to get away politely. Golden Mount views were lovely though and the klong boat ride made up for the annoyance.
Bangkok solo is such an underrated trip for anyone nervous about travelling alone. Chinatown's street food lanes gave me some of the best meals of my life, cheap and absolutely delicious. Ended the week with a nice farewell dinner reflecting on how much confidence this trip gave me.
Climbed the Golden Mount alone at sunset and felt genuinely proud of myself, solo travel done right.
Six days alone in Bangkok turned out to be exactly the reset I needed after a stressful year at work. Wandering through the Grand Palace grounds slowly, with nobody to hurry me along, made the whole experience feel meditative. The longtail boat ride through the klongs showed me a completely different, quieter Bangkok that most tourists skip entirely. My one gripe is that the humidity even in the cooler months caught me off guard some afternoons.
