As someone who has done a few solo trips through Southeast Asia now, this route struck a genuinely nice balance between beach downtime and city chaos. Phuket felt a touch touristy compared to Krabi but still worth the stop.
Four cities in nine nights is a lot of packing and unpacking for a solo trip, but each stop felt distinct enough to justify the effort. Maya Bay and the Grand Palace were the two moments that stuck with me most.
Grand Palace visit needs a full morning, go early before the tour groups arrive.
Coral Island day trip from Pattaya was such an easy, low pressure start to the whole nine nights. From there the pace built naturally through Krabi's cliffs, Phuket's islands and finally Bangkok's noise and colour. As a solo traveller I appreciated that no single day felt rushed. By the time I reached the Grand Palace on the last leg I actually wanted more time in the country, not less.
The islands were superb, but Bangkok's traffic ate a chunk of my last day just crawling between stops.
Go to the Grand Palace right at opening, before the tour coaches, and give it a whole morning.
