City noise felt worlds away during our two days on Büyükada, old mansions and sea views everywhere we cycled. Cooking class back in Istanbul felt slightly rushed though, would have liked more hands-on time instead of watching the chef do half of it.
Ferry ride and island cycling were the best parts of this package, genuinely peaceful. Unfortunately our transfer back to the mainland got delayed by almost two hours with zero communication from the local operator, which ate into our last evening plans. Cooking class was decent but overpriced for what it included.
Never expected an island escape to be the highlight of a Turkey trip but here we are. The ferry crossing alone set such a calm tone, and climbing up to Hagia Yorgi for those Marmara Sea views was worth every bit of the walk. Cooking class in the evening turned into the best part of the whole honeymoon, laughing over dough that kept tearing. Book this if you want something different from the usual Istanbul mosque circuit.
Büyükada's car-free lanes and salt air made the whole island feel a century out of step with the modern world. The hike to Aya Yorgi is steeper than the photos let on, so pack decent shoes, but the panorama over the Marmara at the top is unforgettable.

Princes Island gave us exactly the romantic slowdown we wanted after a hectic work year. The bicycle rental queue took a while on a busier weekend but once we got going it was pure bliss along the coast. Hagia Yorgi hike is steeper than photos suggest so wear proper shoes. Overall a beautiful, unhurried few days together.
