The dhow cruise and Burj Khalifa evenings were genuinely special, but our desert camp pickup left us waiting for other groups so long that we arrived with barely any daylight over the dunes. The sunset we had looked forward to was mostly gone by the time we got there.
Watching the fountains from below the Burj Khalifa, coffee in hand, became our nightly ritual.
Nine nights just the two of us worked better than we had feared, the city and desert sides balancing each other beautifully. One evening we did the abra and the souks, the next the Burj Khalifa and fountains, and each felt like a separate holiday.
Our desert camp transfer took much longer than planned with the vehicle stuck waiting for other pickups first, cutting into the time we actually had at the camp before dinner. Rest of the Dubai days were excellent though and made up for it.
Just the two of us in Dubai for nine nights worked better than we expected, city and desert sides balanced each other out nicely.
Crossing Dubai Creek on the Abra with my husband, old wooden boats and the souk smells all around, felt like stepping into a completely different Dubai than the marina side.
