Great Barrier Reef day trip was the highlight without question, but food and drinks around the marina are quite pricey, expect to spend more than you budget for meals. Mossman Gorge was lovely though slightly rushed on our itinerary.
Adventure and romance blended nicely for us in Cairns, especially the introductory dive which my husband talked into doing and ended up loving more than me. Weather was slightly overcast for two of our reef days, so photos were not as bright as we hoped.

A full week felt exactly right for Cairns, enough time to do the reef properly, walk Mossman Gorge at a relaxed pace, and still have lazy afternoons doing nothing but sipping cocktails by the pool. My partner is not a confident swimmer but the reef guides were patient and made her first snorkel genuinely enjoyable. This trip quietly became one of our favourites.
