Hofburg Palace interiors were grander than either of us had imagined going in. Felt genuinely humbled walking through Habsburg history room after room with my partner. The scale of it, the artwork, the sheer amount of gilding, none of the photos online prepare you for it. Easily the standout stop of the entire trip.
Mirabell Gardens felt like walking straight into a postcard, we kept stopping every few metres for photos.
Queues at Schönbrunn were longer than we expected and we lost almost an hour just getting tickets scanned. Minor dent in an otherwise elegant trip.
Mondsee's lakeside cathedral was our quiet day out of Salzburg, and it was exactly the reset the trip needed. We sat by the water afterwards with a coffee and barely spoke, just watched the lake. Best call we made all week.
