Five nights felt just right for Antwerp. We saw Cathedral of Our Lady twice without ever feeling rushed with the kids. Grote Markt in the evening was quieter and even more atmospheric than during the day. By the last day the children knew their way around the old town better than we did.

Our evenings on Grote Markt at golden hour were the trip's best bits, no question. Less lovely: the Rubens House was mid-renovation while we were there and a good chunk of the collection was off-view, which our art-mad teenager was genuinely gutted about. Worth checking before you go.
Antwerp is charming and Grote Markt at dusk earns all its praise. My gripe is the crowds around the cathedral at peak hours, we queued a fair while twice and shepherding tired kids through the crush wore thin, early mornings were the way to see it in peace.
Loved how walkable everything was here. From the main square to the riverside promenade, nothing felt like a chore with young kids in tow. Cathedral spires visible from almost every street kept the little ones asking questions the whole trip. Would happily recommend this to any family wanting an easy European introduction.
