Rail travel across four cities sounds tiring on paper but honestly it turned out to be the most relaxing part of our anniversary trip, the trains were punctual and comfortable and we could just watch the countryside roll by with a coffee in hand. Standing at Brandenburg Gate on day one set the tone, and by the time we reached Cologne Cathedral near the end we were both a little emotional at how much ground we had covered without ever feeling rushed. Thirteen nights felt just right for Germany, not one day wasted.
Good itinerary overall, Cologne Cathedral is massive and worth the neck ache from looking up. Frankfurt felt a bit like a filler city between the bigger stops but the train connections were smooth.
Berlin gave us the history lesson and Munich gave us the beer and the music, and somehow both halves of us came away satisfied. Thirteen nights with the trains quietly handling all the logistics felt like a genuine gift.
