A well balanced route between history and modern energy. Osaka Castle was more engaging for the kids than we expected, and the Peace Memorial Park gave the whole family a shared, quiet moment that stuck with us.
Hiroshima to Osaka is an emotionally rich but rewarding route for older kids. The Peace Park visit was sobering, and Dotonbori's energy at night was the perfect contrast the following evening.
Standing at the A-Bomb Dome with our two boys led to the kind of questions you hope your kids will one day ask. Miyajima's torii gate glowing on the water the next morning gave them a gentler image to hold onto, and Osaka Castle's grounds let them burn off energy before Dotonbori's lights finished them off.
The transfer between Hiroshima and Osaka took longer than the itinerary suggested and we arrived exhausted with cranky kids in tow. Dotonbori the next evening lifted everyone's spirits though, the food and lights are genuinely exciting for children.
