Trip was decent overall but the shopping stop near Shinsaibashi our guide arranged felt more like a commission visit than something we actually wanted. Hiroshima side of things was excellent though, no complaints there.
Took the whole family including grandparents on this Kansai route and the pace suited everyone. Shinsaibashi's covered arcade was great when it drizzled on day two, nobody had to worry about rain. Peace Memorial Park needed more time than the itinerary allowed, we felt rushed getting the group back to the train. Still, Itsukushima at sunset made up for any scheduling stress.
Two very different cities in four nights, and our kids loved both equally. Dotonbori for the energy, Hiroshima for the history lesson none of us will forget.
Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park was heavier than I'd prepared for, and my older daughter asked questions I didn't have neat answers to. I'm glad she did. Balancing that against the joyful chaos of Dotonbori made this short trip feel like it genuinely meant something.
Osaka's Dotonbori lights had my children absolutely mesmerised on our first evening. Hiroshima Peace Memorial the next day was heavy but important, we had honest conversations with our kids that we hadn't planned for.
Floating torii at Itsukushima at low tide, kids loved walking right up to it.
