Itinerary and sights are genuinely good but I found the food options right around where we stayed in KL surprisingly overpriced for what was on offer, had to walk further out most evenings to eat properly. Langkawi and Penang portions were fine on this front though.
Kilim mangroves cruise alone, just me and the eagles, worth the entire trip.
Well paced for someone travelling alone, structured enough to never feel lost, loose enough to just sit somewhere and watch.
My first solo trip abroad and honestly the confidence it gave me is worth more than anything else. Petronas Towers, Penang Hill, the mangrove cruise, all solid highlights, but what stayed with me most was just sitting alone on Tanjung Rhu beach at sunrise with nobody else around. Solo travellers reading this, don't overthink it, Malaysia is an easy and rewarding place to do it in.
Never expected much from a solo Malaysia itinerary, but this one surprised me completely. KL's Chinatown at dusk, alone, weaving through the food stalls, is one of those small joys of solo travel that's hard to explain to people who haven't done it. Penang added the cultural depth I wanted with its old shophouses and murals. Langkawi at the end was the perfect solo decompress, Tanjung Rhu especially, hardly anyone around in the early morning.
George Town's street art and the Kilim eagles more than delivered for a solo trip. The one letdown was the ferry across to Langkawi running well behind schedule, so I reached the island frazzled and lost the afternoon I had hoped to spend on the beach.
