Nine years of wanting to see the Petronas Twin Towers finally sorted, and Kuala Lumpur did not disappoint. Penang added a lovely cultural layer with its old town, though I wish the itinerary gave one more day there instead of rushing to Langkawi so quickly.
Felt completely safe travelling solo in Malaysia the whole way through. Penang Hill gave incredible views once the mist cleared, and Kilim Geoforest Park's mangrove tour was quieter and more beautiful than I expected, saw monitor lizards up close.
Langkawi and the mangrove tour were genuinely lovely, but KL felt very rushed, we barely settled in before it was time to move on again, and the connecting flight to Penang had a two hour delay with zero communication from the counter staff. Good bones to this itinerary but the pacing needs work for a premium priced package.
The villa stay was the standout, but the transfers between the three stops ate far more of the trip than I had planned for.
Waking up in my own villa in Langkawi with nobody to answer to, that alone justified this whole package. Add in the Petronas Towers, Thean Hou Temple's calm courtyard, and the KL street food scene and you have a near perfect solo itinerary for anyone who overthinks travelling alone.
Travelled solo for the first time in years and Malaysia turned out to be the perfect low-pressure choice. KL's energy hit immediately, standing under the Petronas Towers at night made me feel like a small ant in the best way. Thean Hou Temple was such a peaceful contrast the next morning. Penang Hill's breeze after the humidity down below was such relief, and the mangrove boat ride through Kilim Geoforest Park with the guide pointing out eagles overhead was a real highlight. Ended in a villa in Langkawi doing absolutely nothing for two days, exactly what I needed.
