Akaroa's little French-flavoured harbour town was the loveliest, calmest way to round off twelve busy nights.
New Zealand with our two kids for twelve nights turned into the family trip we will talk about for years. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves left both children completely silent, staring up at what looked like a sky full of tiny stars underground. Watching the Pōhutu Geyser erupt at Te Puia followed by a traditional Hāngī dinner gave us a real taste of Māori culture. Milford Sound cruise had the kids spotting seals and dolphins the entire way through the fiords.
Good mix overall, though the June cold caught us out and day one vanished hunting warmer jackets.
