Went in a little nervous about a week alone but Cebu eased me into it. The first evening on Mactan's waterfront set a relaxed tone, and the Sumilon sandbar at sunset was one of the most peaceful moments I have had in years.
Seven nights is generous for Cebu, and by day five I had honestly run low on new things to see beyond the reef and the waterfront. Still, the slow pace suited a solo trip and Sumilon never got old.
Island itself is lovely but my hotel's air conditioning barely worked for the first two nights and it took repeated calls to get someone to fix it. Once that was sorted the rest of the week was genuinely relaxing.

Snorkelling was the highlight though, drifting alone over the reef with nothing but my own thoughts for company was strangely meditative.
