Cape Town to Johannesburg leg of the journey involved a long transfer day that really tired the kids out. Hotel room in Johannesburg was also smaller and older than what we had in Cape Town for a similar price. Rest of the itinerary was strong enough that this one weak stretch did not ruin the trip. Would just budget an extra rest day around that transfer next time.
Knysna Lagoon boat trip was a calm, easy day for the children after some tiring days of sightseeing. Exactly what we needed mid-trip to recharge before Johannesburg.
Boulders Beach penguins were the absolute highlight for our kids on this trip.
Walking the suspension bridge in Tsitsikamma had our older kid absolutely thrilled. Forest and gorge below made it quite the adventure for a family with young children.
Winter in South Africa turned out perfect, mild days and none of the summer crowds.
Penguins and Table Mountain were brilliant, but the older, cramped Johannesburg room let the trip down a bit at the end.
