Barcelona's Sagrada Familia and Madrid's Royal Palace are the two real anchors of this trip and both delivered fully. Food alone made the whole week worthwhile for a solo eater like me.
Montserrat Mountain was a peaceful surprise, the views from the top feel almost spiritual. The train up does get packed though and I ended up standing most of the way.
Travelling solo through Madrid and Barcelona was liberating in a way group trips never quite are.
Royal Palace was genuinely beautiful but honestly overcrowded on the day I visited, tour groups everywhere and barely any room to look at the ceilings properly without someone's elbow in your ribs. Flamenco show that evening made up for a lot of the frustration though. Would suggest going first thing in the morning if you can manage it.
Sagrada Familia took my breath away the moment I stepped inside. I just wish the itinerary had allowed more time there instead of rushing on to the next stop.
