Kids enjoyed it thoroughly, just wish the itinerary had one more free day built in.

Archipelago cruise was the highlight, kids loved counting the little red houses on every island.

Stockholm in summer is gorgeous but we hit two days of steady rain which washed out our planned outdoor archipelago picnic. Vasa Museum and the other indoor bits saved the trip though, and the view from Monteliusvagen on the one clear evening was unreal.

Seven nights in one city sounded like a lot when we booked but Stockholm has enough layers to keep a family of four busy the whole time. Our daughter's favourite was the archipelago boat ride, mine was just wandering Gamla Stan without any fixed plan. In laws who travelled with us said it reminded them of a cleaner, calmer version of old European towns they had seen before. Would recommend for any family wanting culture without the exhaustion of city hopping.

Sweden's beautiful, no question, but the meal costs around our hotel stung. Fairly plain dinners chewed through our budget faster than a seven night trip ever should have.

Gamla Stan's lanes on an evening ice cream walk are pure magic, our daughter calls it the fairytale street.
