Views throughout were fantastic but the train connections between Bern and Lucerne involved more waiting around at stations than we expected with tired kids in tow. Lake Lucerne cruise on the final day was a nice way to end things though.
Took my in-laws along with our kids for a proper Swiss summer holiday and the mix of mountains and lakes kept every age group happy. Bern's old town was an easy first stop, nobody was jetlagged or cranky by the time we reached the Kleine Scheidegg viewpoint. Lake Thun boat ride past the little lakeside villages and castles was unexpectedly one of the best days, kids loved spotting each castle. Chapel Bridge in Lucerne on our last evening was the perfect calm finish to a very full four nights.
A bit of a trek with the kids up to Kleine Scheidegg, but seeing the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau together made it worthwhile. Chapel Bridge in Lucerne afterward was a gentler, easier day for tired little legs.
Switzerland with two kids in tow felt surprisingly manageable thanks to this itinerary's pacing. Lake Lucerne's boat ride gave everyone a relaxed afternoon after two busier days in Bern. The kids especially loved spotting swans along the lake edge from the boat. By the end of four nights we felt like we'd covered enough without anyone being overtired.
