Six of us travelled together for the first time abroad, my in-laws included, and Switzerland handled it beautifully. Interlaken as a base felt calm and safe for the children to wander a bit, and Jungfraujoch was the trip's obvious highlight, even our eight year old was in awe of the snow in summer. The Chapel Bridge walk in Lucerne was gentle enough for the grandparents to enjoy without tiring them out. Swiss Transport Museum kept the kids busy for a good three hours with all its hands-on exhibits. A slightly pricey trip but genuinely one where every generation had something to enjoy.

Watching our daughter's face in the snow at Jungfraujoch in the middle of July was worth the whole trip by itself. Do carry warm layers though, we underestimated how cold it gets up there even in summer. The train journey itself, with glacier views along the way, kept both kids entertained the whole ride up so no meltdowns despite the long travel time.
Lake Lucerne cruise with the whole family on board, kids running around the deck while we just sat back and watched the mountains go by, is exactly the kind of memory we wanted from this trip.
