Luxury tier pricing but the experience across five towns felt seamless, trains connecting everywhere on time which with kids in tow is a huge relief. Matterhorn views from the glacier paradise station were the highlight for all four of us.
Maison Cailler chocolate tasting was the unexpected family favourite, even more than the mountains according to my kids. Zermatt itself, car free town, felt like something out of a storybook.
Genuinely a top tier family itinerary, the sequencing from Lucerne through to Zermatt via Interlaken and Montreux makes complete geographical sense and cuts down on unnecessary backtracking. Jungfraujoch is obviously the headline experience and it delivers fully, though do carry warm layers even in summer. What surprised us was how much the kids enjoyed Chillon Castle, wasn't expecting a medieval castle to compete with glaciers for their attention. Lake Brienz's turquoise water looked almost fake in photos, in person it's even more striking.
Jungfraujoch itself is spectacular but we were not prepared for how crowded the observation deck gets by mid morning, took a while just to get near the windows with two kids in tow. Rest of the trip, Montreux and Zurich especially, was far more relaxed and enjoyable.
The Maison Cailler chocolate tasting was the unexpected family favourite, more than the mountains according to my two. And Zermatt at the end, cars swapped for horse carts and clean alpine air, felt like a different century entirely.
Chillon Castle turned into an impromptu knights-and-castles story session the kids ran entirely themselves.
