Lucerne town itself is charming but standard tier hotel we stayed in had quite a tired looking room, carpets clearly needed replacing. Pilatus was fogged over on our visit day so the famous panorama was mostly grey mist. Kids enjoyed the transport museum regardless which saved the trip somewhat.
Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi both delivered gorgeous views though doing both within the same week felt slightly repetitive by the end. Kids enjoyed the transport museum the most out of everything. Would maybe swap one mountain excursion for a rest day next time.
A full week from one hotel meant lazy mornings and no rushing, a real luxury travelling with kids. The cruise with the peaks reflected in the water was the calmest hour of our entire holiday.

Staying entirely in Lucerne for seven nights meant no packing and repacking with two young kids which was such a relief. Museum of Transport was the unexpected star of the trip, our son who normally gets bored on holidays did not want to leave. Pilatus summit hike felt like a real family achievement even though we took the easier cable car route up. Rigi's panorama on our last day was the perfect quiet send off before flying home.
