Car-free Zermatt is genuinely magical for families, kids could run ahead without us worrying about traffic. Matterhorn seemed to follow us everywhere we went in the village, still can't get over those views.
Overall a lovely alpine trip, though our second hotel room had a musty smell that took a couple of requests to sort out. Everything outside the room, especially Gornergrat, was excellent.
Ice tunnels inside Glacier Palace were a hit with our kids, bring warm layers though.
Matterhorn views from Gornergrat were everything we hoped for but the viewpoint itself was extremely crowded when we went, hard to get a clean family photo without twenty strangers in the frame. Leisee playground later in the day was much more peaceful.
Four nights in Zermatt with grandparents, parents and two kids and somehow the pace worked for all three generations. First morning stepping into the car-free village with the mountain air was something my parents still talk about. Gornergrat gave us that jaw dropping first panoramic view of the Matterhorn none of us were quite prepared for. Kids spent almost two hours at Leisee playground while we just sat and stared at the mountain. Glacier Palace rounded things off nicely on the last day when the weather turned a bit grey.
The alpine setting was lovely and Gornergrat delivered, but our second hotel room had a persistent musty smell that took two requests to sort out, which soured the middle of the trip a bit. Everything outside the room was excellent.
