The islands portion of the trip, Phi Phi and Maya Bay, was everything I hoped for. Pattaya on the other hand felt like a wasted day or two, the beach there is nowhere close to the postcard shots and the area near the hotel had overpriced restaurants targeting tourists specifically.
Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay alone were worth the whole trip, Bangkok traffic less so.
Picked this trip on a whim during a slow month at work and it turned into one of my favourite solo trips ever. The Phi Phi Islands boat tour was the standout, limestone cliffs everywhere you look and the water genuinely glows turquoise. Krabi's pace was slower and gave me time to just sit on the beach with a book. Phuket had more nightlife energy if that's your thing. Bangkok's Grand Palace tour guide was excellent and made the history come alive.
Snorkelling around Coral Island was such an easy, relaxed start to the trip, warm water and plenty of fish even for a first timer. Bangkok's Grand Palace at the end tied the whole journey together nicely.
Chinatown's stalls in Bangkok deserve their own separate holiday, I grazed one whole evening away solo.
Picked this on a whim during a slow work month and it is now a favourite. Krabi let me sit on the sand with a book, Phuket brought the nightlife, and the Grand Palace guide in Bangkok made the history actually land.
