Eastern Europe can be done for €25 to €60; Switzerland, Iceland and the Nordics cost €90 to €285. Flights from India and the Schengen visa come on top, and both are priced below.

Two costs sit outside the daily budget for Indian travellers: the long-haul flight and the Schengen visa. Checked on 7 Oct 2026.

The EU Entry/Exit System started on 12 October 2025 and has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. At the external border your passport details, face image and fingerprints are registered and your entries and exits are logged digitally. Allow extra time at the first border.
ETIAS is a travel authorisation for visa-free nationalities only, and it is not operating yet. Indians still need a Schengen visa, which is the document that matters.
Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before you travel. A decision normally takes 15 days and can stretch to 45. Apply to the country where you spend the most nights.
The United Kingdom and Ireland need their own visas. Albania, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are outside Schengen with their own entry rules, so check them before you add them to a route.

Many cities add a per-night tourist tax at the hotel, often paid on checkout and not included in the booking price. Check the hotel confirmation for it.
A forex card or a card with a low foreign-currency markup usually beats airport exchange counters. Check your bank's markup and limits before you leave.
Compare an Indian roaming pack with a local SIM or eSIM. If you buy an EU SIM, the UK and Switzerland are outside EU roaming rules.
Spend more nights in cheaper cities, eat the main meal at lunch, buy multi-day transport passes, book rail early and stay a little outside the centre on a good metro line.

At €110 a day mid-range, 14 days on the ground is €1,540, about ₹1,66,500 per person. Add a return flight (our live search found ₹60,015 per person for Bengaluru to Vienna in October) and the Schengen visa (about ₹11,700 to ₹12,800 before insurance), and a mid-range 14-day trip lands near ₹2.4 lakh per person. A budget trip of the same length is about ₹75,700 on the ground.
Double the per-person totals, then expect some saving because you share one room. For 10 days mid-range that is €2,200, about ₹2,37,900, before flights and visas. Couples on a guided tour pay per person, and the tour price on our shelf is quoted per person on triple sharing, so ask for the twin-sharing price when you request a quote.
The visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12 (EU Home Affairs). On top, VFS Global charges a service fee of ₹1,933 to ₹3,111 depending on the country. With medical insurance (minimum €30,000 cover), photos and courier, most adults spend about ₹12,000 to ₹15,000. None of it is refunded if the visa is refused.
ETIAS is only for visa-free nationalities, and it is not operating yet, so Indians who hold a Schengen visa do not need it. EES does apply: since it became fully operational on 10 April 2026, your passport details, face image and fingerprints are registered at the border, and your entries and exits are logged digitally instead of being stamped.
Romania and Bulgaria (about €25 to €45 a day on a budget), then Poland and Hungary (€30 to €50) and the Czech Republic (€40 to €60). Albania, Serbia and Bosnia are similar but outside the Schengen area, so check their own entry rules.
