How to Plan a Trip with Kids

From "Are we there yet?" to "Best trip ever!". A survival guide for parents planning family vacations.

The Secret to Happy Kids on Vacation

The golden rule of family travel is: Lower your pace expectations. You cannot do 5 museums in a day with a 4-year-old. Plan one major activity in the morning when energy is high, and leave the afternoon open for pools, parks, or naps.

The "Home Base" Strategy
Stay in one place for longer. Touching down in a new hotel every night is exhausting for kids. Rent an apartment (Airbnb/VRBO) for 4-5 days so you have a kitchen and separate sleeping areas.
Snack Management
Hunger is the #1 cause of meltdowns. Pack double the snacks you think you need. Buy local snacks as a fun "activity".

Planning Steps for Parents

1. Choosing the Destination

Look for non-stop flights if possible. Layovers extend the travel day and increase meltdown risks. Choose destinations with "kid infrastructure" (sidewalks for strollers, parks, clean water). Japan, Singapore, and Western Europe are excellent.

2. Booking the Flight

If you can afford it, buy a seat for your infant (instead of lap infant) for safety and sanity. Time flights around sleep—night flights can work well for long haul if your child sleeps well on planes.

3. The Packing List

Don't pack diapers for the whole trip—just enough for travel days + 2 days. Buy the rest there. Do pack: essential meds (Tylenol), a change of clothes for YOU (in carry-on in case of spills), and new small toys they haven't seen before.

AI for Family Planning

Finding "kid-friendly" restaurants that aren't just fast food can be tough.

Tell NxVoy AI: "Find me restaurants in Rome near the Colosseum that have high chairs and aren't too quiet." It filters for family amenities instantly.
