Non-hotel guests pay S$32 for the observation deck (book at the hotel tower lobby). Go at sunset — views of the Gardens by the Bay, CBD skyline, and Sentosa are extraordinary. The rooftop infinity pool is for hotel guests ONLY.

The free Supertree Grove light show (Garden Rhapsody) runs at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM every night — exceptional. For the best view, climb the OCBC Skyway (S$14) 22 metres above ground. Book well in advance for the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatories (included in S$28 combo ticket).

Chinatown Heritage Centre (S$18) is Singapore's most moving museum — 3D recreations of the brutal overcrowded shophouse conditions that 1900s immigrants lived in. Walk to Maxwell Food Centre inside for the world-famous Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice stall. Queue is worth it.

Sultan Mosque (1932) is Singapore's most important Islamic building — free entry, modest dress required. Walk 2 minutes to Haji Lane for the most instagrammable street in Singapore — colourful murals, bohemian cafes, and vintage shops in restored shophouses.

Sentosa is connected by cable car (S$35 return), monorail or a 10-minute walk via the boardwalk. Palawan Beach has the southernmost point of continental Asia marker — a fun photo. For the best value, skip Universal Studios (S$83) unless you have young children and instead enjoy the free beach areas.

Singapore's main shopping boulevard. ION Orchard has an excellent free observation deck on Level 56 (ION Sky) with city views — register at the concierge. The underground Orchard ION food hall has excellent cheap food options on B4.
