The zoo and the laneways kept the grandchildren and in-laws equally happy, yet the long coach haul to the coast made that one day drag badly with restless kids. Six nights is generous, I would just split the driving differently next time.
Picked this hoping for a mix of nature and city for our family of four and it delivered exactly that. Zoo, coastline, skyline views, laneways, six nights covered a lot of ground without ever feeling exhausting.
That coastal day trip to see the Twelve Apostles is stunning but it is a genuinely long day in the coach with two young kids, plan for a lot of car time. Rest of the Melbourne city portion was much easier going.
