The Apostles lookout views were stunning but the walkway out was jam packed with tour groups, hard to get a clear family photo without strangers in it. Queen Victoria Market redeemed things with genuinely great food for the kids to try.
Little penguins waddling onto St Kilda Beach at dusk had our kids whisper quiet with excitement, a magical unplanned moment.
Our youngest's favourite part surprisingly was not the Apostles but the market food stalls, she still asks to make the dumplings we tried there. Weather stayed mild throughout except one blustery afternoon at St Kilda that cut our beach walk short.
Loved the dumplings at Queen Victoria Market and the Botanic Gardens pathways, however we underpacked for the winter chill and a couple of walking days turned uncomfortably cold for the kids. A brilliant itinerary let down only by our own packing.
Marketed as a walking adventure for active families and it absolutely delivered, we covered the Botanic Gardens, laneways, Queen Victoria Market and still had energy for St Kilda Beach in the evenings. Twelve Apostles was the trip's big showstopper, our kids still describe the ocean spray on their faces. Seven nights of steady walking with two children sounds tiring written down but the pacing here made it genuinely enjoyable throughout.
Great food at the market, but a cold, windy St Kilda evening ended our beach walk earlier than we had hoped.
