Dzukou Valley, Shillong and Cherrapunji Trek

Meet your driver at Dimapur airport or railway station and begin the uphill drive to Kohima, the capital town of Nagaland. Watch the temperatures drop as you climb into the hills. Arrive in Kohima, take in the views, and check in to your homestay or campsite in time for sunset and an evening cup of tea. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure before dinner.

Start early with a drive to Jakhama, the starting point for the trek into Dzukou Valley. Climb for about three hours through thick jungle until the trees open up to reveal sweeping views across the valley floor. A short walk through the valley brings you to the resthouse where you settle in for the night. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, having tea, reading, or gathering around the evening bonfire.

Wake early to walk around Dzukou Valley, exploring its waterways and clear streams. After spending the morning taking in the landscape, begin the trek back down to the base around lunchtime. Reach the roadhead before sunset, where transport waits to drive you to Dimapur railway station. Have dinner in town before boarding the overnight train to Guwahati.

Arrive at Guwahati railway station by 6 pm and meet your driver. Board your vehicle for the drive to Shillong. Check in to your accommodation and freshen up for breakfast. Spend the day discovering Meghalaya's capital: choose to visit Laitlum Canyons, view the town from Shillong Peak, or browse the local markets. Sample a traditional Khasi lunch during the day, then spend your evening visiting local cafes, music venues, and pubs.

Have early morning tea and drive about an hour to Cherrapunji, locally known as Sohra. Stop first at Nohkalikai Falls, viewing India's tallest plunge from the viewpoint before hiking to the top over rocky ground with fossil remains and natural pools. Drive onward to Tyrna village, where the trek down to Nongriat begins. Walk down the stone steps past smaller root bridges and river pools. Check in to a homestay behind the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, unwind by the pool, and enjoy red tea.

Enjoy breakfast before beginning the walk to Rainbow Falls. The route heads past suspension bridges and living root crossings, taking roughly an hour along undulating jungle paths to reach the falls. Spend time by the pools and take a swim. Return to the homestay for lunch. In the afternoon, you may take an optional 40-minute walk to a neighbouring village to see another living root bridge. Spend a peaceful evening at the homestay.

After breakfast, start the steep climb up the stairs from Nongriat back to Tyrna village. Meet your driver at the top and transfer directly across the hills to Guwahati airport in time for your onward flight, concluding the tour.
