Athens and Heraklion together in one trip worked out beautifully for us. We are not usually history buffs but the Acropolis at golden hour changed that, and the rooftop dinner afterward with that view was worth every bit. Crete side felt like a different world entirely, calmer, bluer, and the Palace of Knossos ruins gave us plenty to talk about over dinner.
Standing at the Parthenon felt genuinely emotional, ancient history right under our feet. Only wish we had one more day in Heraklion since four nights felt slightly rushed between two cities.
