Great mix of history and spirituality across three cities.
This trip with my husband turned out to be far richer than we expected, Lucknow's nawabi buildings had such quiet grandeur, Allahabad gave us a history lesson we did not know we needed, and Varanasi at dawn on the river was the kind of experience that stays with you long after you are home, only wish we had one more night in Varanasi alone.
Varanasi traffic near the ghats was chaotic and our car got stuck for almost forty minutes trying to get through, the aarti itself was beautiful once we arrived.
Anand Bhavan was more moving than I expected, walking through rooms connected to the Nehru family history added real depth to the trip.
Loved the arc from Lucknow to the Ganges, yet three nights across three cities meant much of it flew by. Varanasi in particular deserved longer than the single evening and dawn we gave it, and my husband and I both felt slightly short-changed there.
Dashashwamedh Ghat's evening aarti gave me goosebumps, the chanting and the fire lamps moving in sync, absolutely unforgettable evening with my wife.
