Hangi dinner after the Te Puia geyser show was a lovely cultural evening. Food was hearty and generous, more than we could finish. The Maori cultural performance beforehand had real energy and emotion to it. Pohutu Geyser itself erupted almost on cue while we were watching, which felt like good timing.

Queenstown to Franz Josef drive is long but every bend has a view worth stopping for. Glad we did this as a winter road trip and not during summer crowds.
Franz Josef Glacier viewing walk made both of us feel so small in the best possible way. Definitely pack proper shoes though, the terrain is uneven.
Milford Sound in winter, with barely another boat in sight, simply took my breath away.
Really well planned overall, but the Auckland to Rotorua transfer day was just driving with nothing much to break it up. One restaurant near our Queenstown hotel also charged a small fortune for a very ordinary meal. Minor things in an otherwise brilliant route.
