Standard tier kept costs reasonable without cutting corners on the experiences that mattered. The suspension bridge at Storms River Mouth was the one moment we both talk about most.
Storms River's suspension bridge at Tsitsikamma had my partner genuinely nervous halfway across, good adrenaline for a couple's trip. Soweto the following day was a complete tonal shift, heavy but important.
Deeply frustrating start, our Johannesburg hotel had no record of our booking after a long travel day and we waited almost two hours in the lobby, exhausted and starving, before a room appeared. The Mandela history the next morning was moving, but it couldn't fully undo how badly the trip began.
Oysters by the Knysna lagoon at sunset, my wife still brings it up months later.
Great value overall, though the drive from Knysna to Johannesburg ate up most of a day we'd hoped to spend exploring.
