πΆ The "Bassinet Seat" Strategy
What is it?
A special cot that attaches to the wall in front of you. Your baby sleeps, you sleep. Heaven.
How to get it:
- Eligibility: Usually for infants under 11kg and under 2 years.
- Booking: Do NOT wait for check-in. Go to "Manage Booking" immediately after paying. Look for the bulkhead (front row) seats with the cot icon.
- Cost: Often free for infant ticket holders, though some budget airlines charge for the extra legroom seat.
π Strollers & Car Seats
Good News: You almost NEVER have to pay for these.
The Stroller Rule
You can take your stroller all the way to the boarding gate. The staff will take it from you as you step onto the plane and stick it in the hold. You collect it immediately when you step off (or at the baggage belt, depending on the airport).
Car Seats
If you bought a separate seat for your infant (child fare), you can usually bring an approved car seat onboard for them to sit in. Safer and comfier.
π½οΈ Kids Meals (Pre-Order!)
Standard adult meals are spicy or "weird" for kids. Airlines have tailored menus (nuggets, mac & cheese, purees for babies).
Crucial:
You MUST request these 24 hours before flight. They are not loaded onto the plane automatically. If you forget, your kid is eating spicy curry.

π‘ Pro Tips from UAE Moms
- Dubai Airport Strollers: DXB Airport has free red Maclaren strollers for use inside the terminal. Look for the racks near the gates.
- Priority Boarding: Families with toddlers board first. Use this time to settle in, or board LAST to minimize time strapped in seat.
- Liquids: Security rules are relaxed for baby milk/water. You can bring more than 100ml for the baby.
